Laboratory method for amplifying DNA, in which NDA is heated to separate the double helices, cooled so primers bind to specific sequences in the single-stranded NDA, then heated with polymerase which makes complementary strands starting from the primer sequences. The cycle is repeated many times, resulting in exponential increase in the number of copies of the amplified sequence.
